The panelists described how their teams overcame obstacles, including damaged infrastructure, to deliver vital information following the state's worst natural disaster.

Google Pinpoint

Pinpoint is a new tool from Google that uses AI and Search technologies to allow journalists to cull through large volumes of records of all kinds: emails, contracts, text messages, audio recordings and videos.

I introduced Pinpoint to the news team in summer 2023, and it has been an invaluable tool for our work. Using AI tools frees up our time to do the work that only humans can do.

In winter 2024, Google featured us in a video about using new technology in local journalism, “Harnessing new technology in local journalism.”
