Witness to an execution

Stephen Lich Tyler was a 20-year old college student when his father was murdered in 1997. He believed witnessing the killer’s death would bring him resolution so when his father’s killer was convicted and sentenced to the death penalty, Tyler traveled to the prison to witness the execution.

As managing editor of The State of Things, I produced the conversations with Tyler before and after he witnessed the execution. The series won a 2015 Regional Edward R. Murrow award.
